Concrete Repair in Rialto, CA
Not every cracked slab needs to be torn out, and a contractor who says otherwise on every job is selling, not diagnosing. We repair concrete for Rialto homeowners and property managers: filling and color-matching cracks, grinding down the trip hazards that root lift creates, resurfacing spalled slabs, and swapping out single failed panels so you keep the concrete that is still doing its job.

Crack repair means routing the crack open to a clean edge, cleaning it out, and filling it with a flexible polyurethane or an epoxy depending on whether the crack is still moving. A moving crack filled with a rigid material just cracks again beside the patch.
Trip hazard removal is mechanical. Where one panel has been lifted by a root and sits proud of its neighbor, we grind the lip down to a flush transition with a diamond wheel, which takes an hour and removes the liability without touching the rest of the walk. Resurfacing handles spalling: the loose top layer comes off, a bonding agent goes down, and a polymer-modified overlay goes over the top to give you a new wearing surface. Panel replacement is the heaviest repair, where we saw-cut a failed section out, redo the base underneath, and pour it back with dowels tying it to the surrounding concrete.
When Repair Is Worth Doing
Repair makes sense when the damage is local and the base is sound. A couple of cracks in an otherwise flat slab, a single settled panel, a spalled patch near a downspout, an entry step with a broken nose, these are all straightforward fixes that buy years.
Repair also makes sense on a schedule. A trip hazard on a walkway at a rental or a commercial property is worth grinding this week regardless of what you eventually do with the slab. Once cracks spider across the whole surface, sections rock underfoot, or the original pour was thin and unreinforced, patching stops being economical and a full driveway replacement is the better decision. We will tell you which one you have and we will not push the bigger job when the small one works.
Why Rialto Concrete Ends Up Needing Repair
Root lift is at the top of the list. The mature street trees on the older blocks send roots under driveways and sidewalks hunting for irrigation moisture, and a root under a three-inch slab lifts it like a jack. That is what creates most of the toe-catchers on residential walks here.
Base washout is second. Our sandy Lytle Creek soil moves when water runs through it, and a sprinkler head throwing against a slab edge for a few years hollows out the support underneath. The slab holds until something heavy sits on it, then it settles or snaps.
Spalling comes from water getting into the top layer of concrete that was overworked or over-watered at finishing. Sun and heat cycling do the rest. And plain old thermal movement matters more than people think, because a slab that heats to 140 degrees in August and drops to 45 on a January night is expanding and contracting all year. Without expansion joints at the house and the curb, that movement has to go somewhere.
What Repairs Cost and What Drives It
Repairs are priced by scope, access, and how much demolition is involved. Crack filling and lip grinding are small jobs measured in hours. Resurfacing is priced by area and depends on how much of the old surface has to come off first. Panel replacement carries the same costs as new work, scaled down: saw cutting, breakout and haul-off, base repair, forms, concrete, finish.
Two things push the number up. Matching an existing finish and color on a visible slab takes care and is never a perfect match, since cured concrete has aged and new concrete has not. And access, as always, because a back-yard repair that has to be wheeled in through a gate costs more than the same repair at the curb. If the slab in question sits under a structure, foundation cracks are a different animal and get assessed separately.
Repair Questions
Will the repair be invisible?
No, and anyone promising that is overselling. A good crack repair reads as a thin line rather than a jagged gap, and a ground-down lip reads as a slightly lighter band. On a slab where appearance is the priority, resurfacing the whole panel gives a uniform look that a spot patch cannot.
Can you fix a slab that has sunk?
It depends on how far and why. Minor settlement can sometimes be addressed with grinding or an overlay. Real settlement means the base is gone, and the honest fix is to remove the panel, put proper compacted rock underneath, and pour a new patio slab or panel in its place.
How long do repairs take?
Crack filling and grinding are usually same-day. Resurfacing takes a day plus cure time before you walk on it. Panel replacement runs two days and then the same seven-day wait before vehicles go on it.
